The Advisory Board plays a pivotal role in ensuring the quality and excellence of the DocTalent4EU project. Composed of professionals and experts on doctoral education, it will provide valuable recommendations to the Steering Committee, shaping the project’s direction and achievements. The Advisory Board, appointed during the first General Assembly meeting on 12th and 13th January 2023, include four members:
Dr. Alexander Hasgall
Dr. Alexander Hasgall is the Head of the EUA Council for Doctoral Education (EUA-CDE), responsible for the largest European network in this field. With coverage in 38 countries, EUA-CDE brings together 270 universities awarding doctoral degrees and institutions dedicated to doctoral education and research training. Serving as the voice of doctoral education in Europe, EUA-CDE addresses strategic goals in preparing Europe’s next generation of researchers and knowledge workers. Their areas of expertise encompass doctoral education frameworks, digitalization and AI, the SDGs, research ethics and integrity, career development, postdoctoral researchers, and open science and research assessment. Prior to this role, Alexander coordinated the “performances de la recherche en sciences humaines et sociales” program on research evaluation in the social sciences and humanities at the Swiss University Rectors conference, based at the University of Geneva. Alexander holds degrees in philosophy and history from the University of Zurich and the Free University of Berlin, with a doctoral thesis on “Regimes of Recognition. Struggles over truth and justice in dealing with the last military dictatorship in Argentina.” Alexander has also gained diverse experiences in the NGO sector, including human rights observation in Guatemala, market research, and freelance journalism.
Ana-Maria Peneoasu
Ana-Maria Peneoasu joined the European University Association in 2017 and started as the Policy & Project Officer for the EUA Council for Doctoral Education (EUA-CDE) in 2018. Ana-Maria holds a Master’s degree in European studies from the Catholic University of Louvain-la-Neuve (Belgium) and a Master’s degree in Political Sciences from the Université libre de Bruxelles. Ana-Maria also spent a year as an Erasmus student at the University of Konstanz (Germany).
Dr. Eva Hnatkova
Eva Hnatkova serves as Open Science Coordinator at National Library of Technology and University of Chemistry and Technology in Prague. With extensive experience in research and higher education policy at local, national, and European levels, Eva focuses on implementing European standards in the Czech research environment and engaging with stakeholders. As an Advisory Board Member and former President of Eurodoc, Eva has been actively involved in various EU projects, including DIOSI, DocEnhance, Edulia, and SAF21, with a specific emphasis on doctoral training, early-career researchers, and PhD careers. Currently, Eva contributes as a member of the EUA-CDE Thematic Peer Group dedicated to profiles and institutional support for postdoctoral researchers and serves on the EOSC Association TF for Researcher Engagement & Adoption. Eva obtained a PhD in Process Engineering from Tomas Bata University in Zlín, Czech Republic.
Dr. Bärbel Tress
Dr. Bärbel Tress is a Research Career Expert and Advisor at TRESS ACADEMIC in Munich, Germany. With expertise in guiding researchers toward becoming high performers in their academic careers, Bärbel specializes in advising young researchers on successfully conducting and completing PhD studies, applying for academic jobs and tenure-track positions, and improving research performance and efficiency. Bärbel graduated from Heidelberg University (Germany) with MSc/MA degrees and pursued her PhD and Postdoc at Roskilde University (Denmark). She has held positions as a researcher and university lecturer at Alterra Green World Research and Wageningen University (The Netherlands) and Aberdeen University (Scotland). Throughout her active career in the Life Sciences/Geosciences, Bärbel experienced firsthand the challenges of academia, which fuelled a passion for assisting academics in developing core transferable competencies and achieving success in her career. In 2007, Bärbel co-founded TRESS ACADEMIC, a company dedicated to providing researchers with the complementary skills needed to thrive in academia. The in-house courses have served over 50 universities and research institutes across Europe.
The Advisory Board will convene three times throughout the project to evaluate and advise on the project strategy and execution, including assessing project quality, monitoring progress, and providing recommendations to the steering committee on project orientation and achievements. Moreover, they will provide recommendations on how to ensure long-term sustainability of the project. Their expertise will be instrumental in fostering effective communication and disseminating project results to relevant stakeholders at local, regional, national, and international levels.
